It's been awhile since I revisited my GarageBand Project. I moved the file over to my new MacBook Air 11.6" and GarageBand 2011. I replaced the last MIDI track (other than drums) with a lead guitar track that I recorded using my IK Multimedia iRig hardware with my MacBook Air using the amp emulator and stompboxes built in GarageBand. I'm no Lennon and McCartney, but I think the tune is shaping up. Your thoughts? You Can't Do That (Version 3) by Taxman45

The GarageBand Project: Step 1

I'm determined to learn more about home recording using my Mac. My objective is to experiment with the tools that I have to learn about recording, mixing, and mastering tracks. I learned the guitar by playing along with Beatles songs, and I intend to do the same with this project. Armed with GarageBand, a Samson GTrack USB condensor mic, and the Beatles complete scores, my first effort is to record a song from "A Hard Day's Night" called "You Can't Do That." So far, I have entered all the tracks as Midi using Apple's software instruments. My goal was to get the most realistic sounding tracks that I could using these instruments. I wish I was better at it, but I am to learn and I will post here from time to time as I make progress. Your questions, encouragement and suggestions are welcome! New GarageBand in iLife '08

It's always an exciting day when Real Steve and the gang roll out some new Fanboy toys. Today's announcement of those sexy new iMacs, iLife '08 and iWork '08 are no exceptions. It looks like some new features are in store for fans of GarageBand, the Mac recording application included in iLife '08. This Magic Garage Band feature that looks like it borrows from Band-in-a-Box looks interesting. I'll have to read more about that. There's a spreadsheet in iWork now too. And did I mention those sexy new iMacs? I'm more of a Notebook guy myself but I do have a Mac Mini in my office that I really enjoy.

Please help me learn to teach Podcasting

Please help! I have an hour on Saturday to teach the Music SIG at Apple Corps of Dallas how to record a Podcast using a Mac and GarageBand. I understand the very basics of doing this, but I've never actually done a Podcast before. I've only used GarageBand to record music and pretty amateurishly at that. So, can you veteran bloggers and podcasters post some comments on my blog with links or suggestions for Newbies on recording Podcasts? I'm very interested in the workflow that you use when you sit down to create a podcast. Are there any tips and tricks on mixing an mastering or any special plug-ins that you use? Where do you get your music and when to use music in a Podcast to enhance not detract from the message? Where do you host your podcast and how expensive is it for a beginner? Please feel free to post links to tutorials or plugins and share your ideas so I can pass them along to the SIG. Again, this is for my Music SIG at Apple Corps of Dallas, the oldest Mac User Group in the country, nay the world!
