Tax Research of the Future?

As my staff updates tax research books, I'm thinking about the tax research of the future. Instead of books or even searching online databases of tax cases and rulings, maybe I'll just be able to Twitter a tax question and get a reply:

Taxman45:  @cch  Can taxpayer claim dogs as dependents?

CCH:  @Taxman45 WTF?  OMG, NO!  TTYL BFF, CCH

Maybe it won't be exactly like that but, who knows?

Things I'm Jazzed About

As I prepare for another day of running about with my hair on fair. Let's take a moment and think about a few things that I'm excited about:

1.  I'm about to spend a week with my daughter and about 30 high school youth on a church mission trip.  A great way to give back, reconnect with people, and recharge all at the same time.

2.  I have a wonderful wife and two awesome daughters.  Yes, I'm proud!

3.  I love what I do and I do what I love for  a profession and people hire me to do it.  Yes!

4.  I am blessed with great friends and family.  Thank you!

Fun things to check out on the web:

1.  "The Big Trip"  Neal Campbell and Cali Lewis are about to realize a dream of 50 states in 50 weeks.  Remember that movie with Dezi Arnez and Lucille Ball with the long trailer?  Neal and Cali plan to head out on their mission in a big RV, which will be their home for the next year.  All the while, they'll be podcasting and reporting.  Sounds daring, sounds fun, sounds a bit confining.  Support the cause and follow along by clicking the "big trip" link on my blog.

2.  Gottabemobile.com is giving away lots of gear.  All you gotta do is participate on the forums. You might even when the gently used TC1100 that I so badly want.  Check it out!

3.  Hugh MacLeod is gapingvoid.com  If like me, you enjoy Hugh's business card cartoons, he's developed a widget that you can load on your blog. You can see it over there on the right if you're reading my blog.  I chuckle every time I read one of Hugh's cartoons.  Alpine, TX is lucking to have Hugh as its most outspoken citizen. 

Happy Leopard Day! Wait?

"Today is gonna be the day that I give it all back to you..." Sorry, that was Oasis. Not Steve Jobs. Fed Ex says my Leopard family pack will be here by 10:30 AM. I've been encouraged to wait awhile to install it by Dr. Mac and others. Wait? I'm not familiar with that word. So, I Google it. Okay, "sit in one place and anticipate or expect something." I'm not going anywhere until Fed Ex comes. Check. "Look forward to the probable occurence of." I'm definitely looking forward to installing Leopard and it's probable that I will. Check. "Wait before acting". Surely, they didn't mean that definition! There's gotta be a loophole. "the act of remaining inactive in one place while expecting something." Not much work is getting done today. Check. It's also a radio station and a cool song by the Beatles (which is maybe my theme song for the day). "Wait, til I come back to your side. We'll forget the tears we cried." So prophetic. It's all gonna be good even if we have to cry while installing. So, I'll definitely "wait". It just may not be the way Dr. Mac intended. iPhone Update Ate My iPhone?

Okay, the phone itself still works, but I've got no Wi-Fi. I know that i have "no Wi-Fi" because the iPhone tells me that I have "no Wi-Fi" when I go to the settings panel. The Wi-Fi setting is completely greyed out with no ability to turn anything on or off. I spent about 90 minutes on the phone with Apple Support this morning resetting and restoring, but no matter what I tried, I still have "no Wi-Fi". Apple is sending me a loaner phone and a box to return my iPhone for repair. The really odd thing is that my wi-fi actually worked immediately after installing the update because I bought a song from ITMS on the iPhone. It was only this morning that I was denied access. Go figure! So, you might want to be wary about installing the iPhone update even if you haven't hacked your iPhone.

Update: Just to be clear. I did not install any 3rd party apps or hack my iPhone in any way.

Update: Fed Ex just arrived with my official AppleCare Service edition iPhone that will be staying with me while the special "no Wi-Fi" edition returns to the mothership to restore that childlike sense of wonder that comes from being able to connect to the Internet. Hopefully, my $600 (less $100 credit) baby will get a hide buff or maybe total replacement will she's there. Apple service is definitely prompt and efficient.

Update: Got the loaner iPhone on Saturday. I dropped the iBrick off at the Fed Ex Kinkos not thinking it would move from there until Monday, but lo and behold they shipped it to arrive at the repair facility on Monday. By Monday afternoon, I got notice that they decided to replace, not repair, my iPhone and the new one will arrive tomorrow by Fed Ex. Every experience I've had with AppleCare thus far has been a positive one.

I'm thinking Harmon Kardon Soundsticks would Go with these...

The Wall Street Journal reports that the piano used by John Lennon to compose the classic "Imagine" has been popping up in historic sites of violence or tragedy as part of a "John Lennon Piano Peace Tour". The tour is sponsored by the piano's owners, George Michael ("you gotta have faith..") and his long-time partner Kenny Goss.
